She is the fourth largest ship in the world and the biggest to ever sail in Australian waters – Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas arrived in Sydney yesterday.

Cruise Passenger has sailed on Ovation during her float out in Germany as well as her inaugural cruise in Singapore. But yesterday, we were also lucky enough so step aboard her in Sydney.

Gavin Smith, the Regional Vice President of Royal Caribbean in the Asia Pacific region said that he and Adam Armstrong, the Managing Director of Royal Caribbean, said that Australia needed an amazing technologically advanced ship.

“We tried out Quantum of the Seas in New York and we cruised up and down the Hudson River. We went up in the North Star and we said, imagine sailing this into Sydney,” he said.

“So we took the idea back to the corporation. That was our mission and we are glad to see it happen. It was amazing to see Ovation of the Seas arrive in Sydney.”

Mr Armstrong said now Aussies, both regular Royal Caribbean cruisers and first time cruisers will enjoy this ship.

“We have brought a world class product to Australians right to their doorstep so they don’t have to travel. This ship is for first time cruisers and welcoming back our Royal guests,” he said.

“She is the biggest, the newest, the most modern and the most expensive ever in Australia.”

Ovation has received rave reviews from passengers – a favourite has been Jamie’s Italian restaurant which serves dishes designed by the British celebrity chef.

Passengers have also been flocking to the iFly, the sky diving simulator and the North Star which is an observation capsule that elevates guests to give them a 360 degree view of their surrounds.

We took a small tour of Ovation which started at the amazing Bionic Bar where the robots are your bartenders! Specially made for the Australian market, guests can pick their favourite alcohol and flavours using an iPad to create their very own cocktail.

Then watch as the robots shake and stir your cocktails and once its ready, your name will appear on the TV screen.

We then showed the Royal Promenade which has shops, cafes, bars and restaurants where people can shop and relax. The ship has also partnered with the high-end jewellery line, Cartier to bring onboard a dedicated store.

We also then had a look at the Music Hall, a two-storey venue which a live DJ in the evenings. We then headed up to deck 14 to the adults only pool area for guests 16 and above. The area at the front of the ship, is enclosed so you can swim at all times. There is also a dedicated restaurant which serves healthy options.

Further into the ship is the pool area which also has a giant television screen and a kids waterslide park.

Our next stop was the amazing SeaPlex which was a roller derby rink when we visited. But guests can also drive around in bumper cars. There are foozeball tables, tennis tables, a video arcade area as well as a hot dog stand. Naturally, this is a favourite area for the kids and the teens. Outside the SeaPlex is the Mama and Baby statue, a special art installation created especially for Ovation.

Then it was the Two70 which is a two-deck high venue at the back of the ship which is a giant floor to ceiling window by day, and by night, transforms into an entertainment venue. There window, which is twice the size of the IMAX is more than 100 feet wide and 20 feet tall. The space also has six robotic screens and a stage for performances. There is nothing quite like it in the world.

We were also lucky enough to sample sliders and antipasto plates Jamie’s Italian, amazing gastronomical fare like devilled eggs and from the Izumi Japanese restaurant, some of the freshest sushi.
