When Norwegian Viva takes to the seas for the first time, guests will be treated to a spooky serving of brand new entertainment.

The cult classic will be performed as a musical, fresh off a Broadway run, when the new ship launches in June 2023, complimenting the beauty of the Mediterranean with the humour and absurdity of Beetlejuice.

Incoming Norwegian Cruise Line president David J. Herrera says: “Our goal is to elevate the experiences that our guests have on the ship. One of those cornerstones … is our entertainment.”

The announcement was made at a special dinner, a “Dinner for the Recently Deceased”, featuring appearances of many key members of the production, with leading couple Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz performing “Say My Name” from the show.

The Norwegian Viva production will run for 90-minutes, and feature members from the original Broadway cast. You can also expect extremely high and immersive production value, with special effects, lighting and audio up to the standard of the acclaimed Broadway show.

The show will join “Six” and “Jersey Boys”, as the rotation of Broadway-style shows currently showing on NCL ships.

Richard Ambrose, NCL’s Senior Vice President of entertainment and cruise programming, says that he doesn’t see his competition as other cruise lines, but Broadway itself.

“We do [entertainment] the best. People always say, ‘What about the other lines?’ … I really don’t care what they’re doing because my competition … is [Broadway], is the West End.”
