Regional cruisers beached and year-round sailings under threat in fallout from P&0 Australia’s sinking

P&O Australia, a cruise line that began sailing out of Sydney in 1932, will bring its decorated history to a close as it is absorbed into the Carnival Cruises brand. This absorption, and particularly the retiring of Pacific Explorer might signal that we are nearing the end of seeing major cruise lines port out of cities that aren’t Sydney or Brisbane.

P&O online forums have been rife with debate, after the conflict in New Caledonia has led to the rescheduling of several cruises. Many cruisers are complaining of having cruises over inflated with sea days due to the ports not being replaced with alternatives, as well as other complaints, such as the port taxes not being refunded from the cruise fare.Â
