Tradewind Voyages, a new UK based cruise line has announced their brand new luxury sailing ship, Golden Horizon will be circumnavigating Australia from December 2021.
Started in January of this year, the fledgling lines first ship, a tall five-masted luxury vessel will be entering Australian waters in December of next year, with staterooms on sale from November 2.
The five-masted barque is the world’s largest square-rigged sailing vessel. At 162m long, Golden Horizon boasts 6300 square metres of sail as well as motorised propulsion.
Tradewind Voyages follow a philosophy of chasing the sun and the wind along their journeys and trips are planned on the basis of prevailing winds and currents. The intention is to have the vessel under sail for 70 per cent of the time.
Built to be an almost exact replica of France II, a 1913-built ocean ship designed to carry bulk dry cargo Golden Horizon will be the first ship to set sail for Tradewind Voyages but will not be the last. The incomplete ship was acquired from Star Clippers when their unnamed ship failed to come to fruition, she is still under construction in Croatia.
The Managing Director of Cruise Traveller, Craig Bowen who has partnered with the company for their Australian launch said: “Golden Horizon fits perfectly into the unique, small ship cruise adventures Cruise Traveller specialises in and we look forward excitedly to promoting her in the Australian market”.
There will be space for up to 272 Australians to climb aboard and celebrate Christmas at the Great Barrier Reef and see in the new year while watching fireworks off the Gold Coast.
Other port stops will include Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, the Whitsunday Islands, Tasmania, and the wine regions of Western Australia.
Golden Horizon will embark on her maiden voyage in May 2021 from Harwich in England to Glasgow Scotland. She will complete eight more trips through Europe before embarking upon the inaugural world voyage in August.
In true luxury style, Golden Horizon will offer guests personal service, a fine dining room, three pools, gym, library, spa sanctuary, four inside and outside bars, a marina platform and a collection of kayaks, waterskis and wakeboards for guests to use. All 140 cabins will offer ocean views.
Cruise Traveller will open sales for sectors of Golden Horizon’s Australian circumnavigation on November 2, 2020. Registrations of interest can now also be made with Cruise Traveller.
