- The venerable most-awarded luxury cruise line is getting a new ship.
- Crystal Grace will define luxury cruising for a new generation.
- Publisher Peter Lynch was given the inside track during a cruise on Crystal Serenity.
When Crystal Grace sails from Rome on June 11, 2028, it will mark much more than the launch of a new cruise ship. It will be the culmination of one of the most remarkable comeback stories in modern cruising.
Crystal, Grace is the first new-build ship in more than two decades for a luxury line that has won more awards than any other. Crystal Symphony entered service in 1995 and Crystal Serenity followed in 2003.
Both vessels were extensively refurbished after Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group acquired the line in 2022, restoring one of luxury cruising’s most revered brands.
Now Crystal is preparing to unveil the vessel that executives believe will become the ultimate expression of the line’s future.
The inaugural season for Crystal Grace is now open for ticket sales. You can find out more here.
Speaking aboard Crystal Serenity during a cruise around Australia, Crystal Brand Ambassador Fernando Barroso de Oliveira, Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations Bernie Leypold offered the clearest picture yet of what guests can expect.
Their message was simple: Crystal Grace will not reinvent the brand. Instead, it will take everything loyal guests already love and elevate it.
“This is our baby,” Barroso de Oliveira said. “Imagine a brand new ship, even better than Serenity and Symphony. It is elegance from the tip of the bow all the way to the stern.”
Built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and scheduled for delivery in May 2028, Crystal Grace will occupy a sweet spot between Crystal’s two existing ships.
At 60,500 gross tonnes, she will be larger than Symphony but slightly smaller than Serenity. Guest capacity will be just 650 passengers across 337 suites, all featuring private verandas.

That commitment to space remains central to Crystal’s luxury philosophy.
“We are listening to our guests,” Leypold explained. “Everything they have come to love about Symphony and Serenity will be there.”
One of the biggest cheers among Crystal loyalists may come from a feature many modern cruise lines have abandoned: a full wraparound promenade deck.
Barroso de Oliveira, a lifelong maritime enthusiast, was emphatic about its importance.
“In 2028 we’re going to have a ship with a wraparound promenade deck,” he said. “Many cruise lines have sacrificed that luxury to maximise cabins. We are keeping it.”
For Crystal guests, that means sunset walks around the ship, morning exercise with uninterrupted ocean views and a continuation of the classic cruising traditions that have helped define the brand.
The ship’s social heart will remain Crystal Cove, the elegant central atrium that has become synonymous with the line. But Grace will add greater flexibility for the famous Crystal themed parties.
Guests will be able to enjoy White Parties and special events not only in Crystal Cove but also in Palm Court and, weather permitting, around the pool deck.
A new pool bar will help transform the outdoor space into a true entertainment venue, creating opportunities for more open-air celebrations beneath the stars.

Crystal Grace dining

Dining has always been one of Crystal’s strongest cards, and Grace appears set to raise the bar even further.
Crystal has already revealed renderings of its specialty restaurants, designed by Tillberg Design of Sweden alongside the line’s culinary partners.
The much-loved Umi Uma, created with renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa, will feature Japanese-Peruvian cuisine in a dramatic venue with floor-to-ceiling ocean views. An 84-seat dining room will be complemented by a casual sushi bar.
Beefbar, Crystal’s exclusive partnership with restaurateur Riccardo Giraudi, returns with an expanded design that includes a dedicated outdoor dining terrace.
Italian restaurant Osteria d’Ovidio, developed with Michelin-starred brothers Massimiliano and Raffaele Alajmo, will also offer alfresco dining.
The addition of outdoor seating is one of the ship’s most significant enhancements.
“Two of the specialty restaurants will have outdoor dining,” Barroso de Oliveira confirmed. “It’s going to be very special.”
Guests will also find familiar favourites including Waterside, Marketplace, the Bistro and Beefbar, ensuring continuity with the current fleet.
The popular Bistro will receive upgrades including Crystal’s signature Venchi gelato and expanded offerings throughout the day.
Accommodation is where Crystal Grace is perhaps making its biggest statement.
Owner’s Suite
The ship introduces Crystal’s first-ever Owner’s Suite, an extraordinary residence measuring almost 2,000 square feet inside, plus a 1,165-square-foot veranda.
The suite features a private outdoor whirlpool, marble-clad bathrooms, library space, dining room, fireplace and expansive ocean views.
“If you’re from Europe, you don’t find apartments this size in many cities,” Barroso de Oliveira joked.
The six Penthouse Suites, each measuring more than 1,200 square feet, will continue Crystal’s tradition of spacious luxury, while select suites located aft will feature wraparound verandas.
Junior Penthouses, Sapphire Suites and Aquamarine Suites have all been redesigned based on guest feedback gathered since Crystal’s relaunch.
A key improvement is the inclusion of separate bathtubs and walk-in showers in Sapphire Suites, a frequent request from guests.
Storage has also been carefully considered throughout the ship, with walk-in wardrobes available in many categories and larger bathroom configurations offered in others.
Even the entry-level guest rooms maintain Crystal’s focus on space. At approximately 230 square feet, every accommodation category includes a private veranda.
Importantly, Crystal will continue offering dedicated solo traveller cabins, a feature increasingly valued by luxury cruisers.
But while the hardware is impressive, Crystal executives repeatedly returned to what they believe remains the line’s defining feature: service.
The company intends to maintain one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the luxury sector, ensuring the personalised experience that helped build Crystal’s reputation over three decades.
The launch of Crystal Grace also symbolises the completion of Abercrombie & Kent’s transformation of the brand.
Since acquiring Crystal, AKTG has invested heavily in refurbishing Symphony and Serenity while leveraging its global destination expertise to create deeper shore experiences.
Crystal CEO Cristina Levis perhaps summed up the ambition best when she described Grace as “more than a name”.
“It reflects the effortless elegance, generous spirit and sense of tranquillity that define the Crystal experience.”
For longtime Crystal guests, Grace represents the future without abandoning the past.
