1. Essential Vietnam and Cambodia

The 2027 portfolio includes the return of the iconic 12-Day Essential Vietnam and Cambodia cruise itinerary. Including visits to the local wonders of remote villages along the Mekong, plus the region’s major cities. Guests board the RV Lotus, described as premium comfort with a variety of entertainment and wellness options onboard. The cruise starts from $4,295 per person including savings of up to $3,000 per couple. This price includes accommodation, many meals, guides, transfers and tipping.

This is Travelmarvel’s signature Mekong River itinerary and one of the most popular Asia cruise itineraries across the major river lines. It combines several key cultural highlights from Cambodia’s temple culture and rural villages, with the advantages of a seven-night Mekong cruise, touring Vietnam’s southern cultural centres and all the benefits of soft-adventure touring with relatively easy pacing.

The itinerary runs between Siem Reap to Ho Chi Minh City or in reverse from Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap. The biggest selling point for this itinerary is that it combines the “bucket-list” Angkor Wat experience with a genuine river-cruise journey through the Mekong Delta. This combination appeals strongly to first-time Asia cruisers as well as mature Australian travellers or travellers who want culture without extreme physical demands.

Beauty of the Mekong

The Mekong is very different from European river cruising. This itinerary is slower paced, more immersive, village-focused, less formal onboard. On this cruise, guests visit floating villages, monasteries, local workshops, island communities, and riverside markets. There’s a strong “local interaction” component rather than monument-heavy sightseeing.

The ship itself is boutique rather than ultra-luxury. There are a total of only 54 suites, each with twin-balcony cabins and Vietnamese-inspired interiors. Onboard there are spa/wellness facilities, a small pool on the sundeck and a more intimate atmosphere than on any large ocean ships.

Included highlights

In Cambodia, the itinerary includes sunrise at Angkor Wat, an Apsara dance performance a Buddhist blessing ceremony and Tuk tuk touring. In Vietnam, guests visit Mekong Delta villages, Cu Chi Tunnels, Ho Chi Minh City and local market visits.

2. Imperial China

Also in the river cruise portfolio is the returning 13-day Imperial China tour starting from $6,395 per person. Operating as a small group tour with a maximum of 24 travellers, this itinerary offers a more intimate travel experience, complemented by a Travelmarvel Tour Director. Highlights include a four-night Yangtze River Cruise, a cable car ride to soak up panoramic views of the Great Wall of China, and the chance to be immersed in the local culture in Hutong making dumplings with a local family. This price includes a fully escorted China program, small-group touring, and the Yangtze cruise inclusion.

The 13-day Imperial China itinerary is different from the Mekong cruise in that it is more land based, with a river cruise element, along the Yangtze. It is capped at 24 travellers, making it enticing for those seeking a more intimate journey.

Key destinations include Beijing, Xi’an, Yangtze River and Shanghai. Highlights of the trip include the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Terracotta Warriors, Three Gorges region and Shanghai modern China contrast.

Beauty of the Yangtze River

Whilst this is predominantly a land based tour, the river cruise element of The Yangtze cruise is one of the most popular features because it breaks up what could otherwise become a very intensive touring schedule.

The river section includes highlights of the Three Gorges scenery, shore excursions, dam visits, and cultural performances onboard. Travelmarvel uses premium river vessels such as the Century Paragon on some of these China itineraries.

Cultural highlights

Travelmarvel includes several cultural highlights in this itinerary including Hutong dumpling-making with a local family, a cable-car ride on the Great Wall, local food experiences, the river cruising element and the added benefit of smaller groups for impromptu smaller excursions.
