In Short:

Royal Caribbean has officially revealed Hero of the Seas as its fourth Icon Class cruise ship, unveiling a host of new attractions onboard.

  • Hero of the Seas is the fourth in Royal Carribbean’s Icon Class ship.
  • It boasts a number of new features not seen on its sister ships including the Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-deck space for up to 12 guests.
  • The maiden cruise is scheduled for August 11, 2027, with bookings opening to the general public on April 2, 2026.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear nine pools, a tangle of multi-coloured water slides, a three-storey family treehouse, a surf simulator and more.

Royal Caribbean announced its fourth Icon Class ship will be called Hero of the Seas, and will one-up its sister ships Icon of the Seas, Legend of the Seas and Star of the Seas with a number of new features and attractions.

One of the highlights is new accommodations aimed squarely at attracting multigenerational travellers. The three-storey Ultimate Family Treehouse features a rooftop terrace and private whirlpool, a two-deck teen space, and two main bedrooms each with their own bathroom and balcony.

Hero of the Seas, Royal Caribbean says, will set new records with its nine pools and 28-dining venues plus notching up some firsts, including with its funnel raft slide, the first of its kind at sea.

“With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean.

“Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even
further.”

Families holidaying together will be able to share in a number of activities on board, as well as finding space for “adults only” time.

Hero of the Seas will introduce Coconut Cove, an all-new pool with in-water loungers and poolside service, just steps away from the tropical Caribbean bar, The Lime and Coconut.

The Hideaway adults-only oasis features two pools, while its sister ships have just the one, and includes the largest swim-up bar at sea for tropical cocktails and an in-water DJ booth.

Responding to feedback from guests that they prefer water slides which they can enjoy with others rather than solo body slides, Hero of the Seas introduces the first funnel raft slide at sea. Plus, there will be new twists on the mat-racing Storm Chasers in the massive waterpark, Category 6.

Cruisers can also put themselves to the test on Crown’s Edge, a part skywalk, part zip line experience 47 metres above the ocean or catch a wave on the FlowRider surf simulator.

Royal Caribbean’s supper club concept also gets the “Hero” treatment, unveiling Orleans Parish Supper Club, a multi-course dining venue with live jazz, craft cocktails, and gourmet Cajun and Creole dishes inspired by the early 20th century elegance of the French Quarter.

Hands-on cooking classes for all ages will be on offer in a new venue that’s yet to be revealed. The AquaDome Market food hall will return, with four new stall concepts, as will fleet favorites like sushi at Izumi, family-style dishes at Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, premium steaks at Chops Grille, and fresh catches at Hooked Seafood.

Homeported in Miami, Hero of the Seas will take guests on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Bookings open to the general public on April 2, 2026.
