Perth resident Madonna is our lucky winner of a seven-night luxury European river cruise for two, valued at $16,000.
The prize was part of Cruise Passenger’s “Choose Your Own Adventure” competition, which offered one winner the chance to sail through one of Europe’s beautiful rivers with award-winning cruise line, AmaWaterways. She’ll get to stay in a Category E stateroom (with her chosen guest) for the week-long voyage and enjoy the many amenities of AmaWaterways’ stunning ships. Madonna will also be able to choose an itinerary and plan her very own European adventure.
The most exciting part of this for Madonna? It will be her first time in Europe. “Most of our travels have been the other way, to the US or Canada,” she says, “I’m really excited- we’re going to make it part of a larger trip and probably stay a month or so.”
While she hasn’t finalised her plans, she’s leaning towards one of AmaWaterways’ stunning Rhône itineraries, with the Colours of Provence at the top of her list. This river cruise would take her from historic Lyon through the Beaujolais wine region to Tournon, Viviers, Avignon, and conclude in the enchanting city of Arles. On her river cruise, she can expect regionally inspired cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients, personalised service from a highly trained Cruise Manager and luxury accommodation in an outside stateroom.
Madonna lives in Perth with her partner, whom she’ll be bringing on the cruise with her. While she’s been on an ocean cruise before as a child, she’s never experienced a river cruise before. When she was “very young”, she went on the iconic Australian-based Fairstar, known as the “Fun Ship”, though it was a rocky ride, as they hit the end of a cyclone. Luckily for Madonna and her partner, there won’t be any cyclones on the Rhône.
Madonna’s upcoming AmaWaterways adventure promises not only a luxurious cruise but also the start of her first European adventure. After sailing down the Rhône, she’s thinking of potentially exploring Spain or Portugal with her partner. They’re thinking of travelling in the shoulder season, to escape the cooler Aussie winter and enjoy the warm weather of Europe before it hits peak season.
