South America is rapidly emerging as a new frontier for luxury river cruising, drawing discerning travellers eager to explore its vibrant cultures, ancient histories, and unparalleled biodiversity.
This burgeoning popularity is being spearheaded by leading cruise lines, bringing sophisticated vessels and immersive itineraries to the continent’s iconic waterways.
AmaWaterways has been at the forefront of this trend, offering new journeys in Columbia. Similarly, Abercrombie & Kent (A&K), renowned for its luxury expeditions, is continually enhancing its South American river offerings, providing unparalleled access to remote and culturally rich regions with their bespoke river vessels.
Beyond these pioneers, other operators are recognizing the immense potential. Delfin Amazon Cruises continues to offer intimate luxury experiences on the Peruvian Amazon, while Jungle Experiences provides diverse options for exploring the region. Smaller, boutique local operators are also growing, offering unique insights into specific rivers like the Rio Negro in Brazil or the Paraná River in Argentina.
River cruise line CroisiEurope has racently revealed it will be sailing the Amazon River in Brazil.

The line will offer 11-day voyages that will take guests to visit major parks and UNESCO sites. Passengers can see the region’s wildlife in dinghies and dugout canoes.
Also part of the program, there will be evening shore excursions to see the wildlife after dark and visits to river villages to meet the locals.
The itineraries, which will begin in 2027, will be offered on the line’s 32-passenger Basilian Dream and will focus on eco-tourism on the Amazon.
The four-deck ship will incorporate local artwork and be inspired by the colourful Amazonian culture. The ship will have 16 suites with private balconies including two presidential suites.
In the restaurant, the chefs will serve Brazilian-inspired cuisine and there will also be a spa, fitness room, sun deck and conference room.
Amazon & Rio Negro will sail roundtrip from Manaus, Amazon & Rio Tapajos will cruise between Manaus and Santarem, and cruise along the Amazon Between Brazil & Colombia will operate between Manaus and Tabatinga.
