Ponant Expeditions Group will launch two new itineraries in the Kimberley this year, taking well-travelled adventure seekers from Fremantle to Broome and vice versa.
The 11-day expedition cruise aboard Le Soleal will explore Australia’s west coast’s immaculate beaches, majestic landscapes and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In the Murujuga National Park on the Burrup Peninsula, travellers will be able to marvel at the 40,000-year-old rock art depicting seabirds, human figures and extinct creatures on the rock which provide a glimpse into the ancient history of the indigenous people.
The new expedition cruise will visit Shark Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its incredible biodiversity. It will also call at Jurien Bay Marine Park, the only breeding area for Australian sea lions.
They will also be able to experience colourful coral reefs and large seabird breeding colonies in the Abrolhos Islands.
At Montebello Islands, off the Pilbara Coast, they can view the limestone island with its small islets. The area is rich in natural marine diversity.
At Ningaloo, they will be able to swim with whale sharks, the biggest fish in the ocean. They will also be able to snorkel and enjoy the largest coral reef in Australia and the only large reef in the world found so close to the continental land mass, allowing swimmers to snorkel from the shore.
At Cape Peron, named after the French explorer Francois Peron, travellers will be able to experience the wild and isolated UNESCO World Heritage Site with its turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and ochre cliffs tinged with red sand from the deserts inland. They will also discover the astonishing rich underwater wildlife including stromatolites, the oldest known life forms on the planet.
The new itinerary will depart Broome on 11 August and depart Fremantle for Broome on 21 August 2025.
