- Majestic Princess has had its 2026/27 season out of Texas cancelled.
- Could this mean the ship might be deployed to Australia?
- If it does, that would once again give Australia four Princess ships.
The Majestic Princess was set to sail out of Galveston in Texas for the 26/27 season, but Princess has pulled the plug and cancelled the season of sailings. This means the ship currently has no cruises scheduled for the 26/27 season, and where it will be deployed to is currently unknown.
With this in mind, is there a possibility the ship could come to Australia? While there is currently no indication as to where the ship will go, it could slot in nicely for the Australian season. We’d like to think that Princess would consider Australia.
It currently has cruises scheduled out of New York until November, which would allow it to sail across the Pacific for the Australian season.
Majestic Princess is one of Australia’s favourite ships. It was hailed as our newest Princess ship when she first came to Australia and has been a regular visitor.
If it were to be redeployed to Australia, this would also signal a return to full-strength for Princess’s Australia operations. Majestic Princess was part of Princess’s four-ship fleet that sailed in Australia during the 23/24 season, along with Royal Princess, Crown Princess, Grand Princess and Coral Princess.
The 26/27 Aussie season currently has three ships pencilled in, with Crown Princess, Grand Princess and Royal Princess, meaning that Majestic would bring Princess’s Australian deployment back up to four ships.
Princess will actually only sail two ships in Australia for the 25/26 season, with Discovery Princess and Crown Princess, it is lowest in a long time. A fleet of smaller premium ships is shaping up to try and fill that void, including Azamara and Viking.
With Australia generally seeing fewer big ships on its shores, if Majestic Princess were to be deployed to Australia, this would represent a significant win for the industry and be symbolic of Princess’s commitment to the region.
In fact, having four ships could potentially allow Princess to drop its Australian prices a little bit and compete further with cruise lines like Royal Caribbean. Royal Caribbean prices have been on the rise, almost equally Princess prices in some cases, this could be seen as an opportunity for Princess to get more families or regular cruisers who are looking for a slightly more pampered or premium experience.
And, of course, there are all those former P&O Australia passengers who have Princess points to redeem.
Cruise Passenger has contacted Princess Cruises for comment to see if the move to Australia could happen.
Princess statement
The cruise line wrote the following to guests: “Princess Cruises has made the difficult decision to cancel all sailings aboard Majestic Princess from Galveston scheduled between November 2026 and March 2027.”
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause our guests and appreciate their understanding as we work to enhance our global offerings.
“We remain committed to delivering exceptional vacation experiences and look forward to welcoming guests aboard Majestic Princess in its soon-to-be-announced deployment.”
