Frustrations over the proposed White Bay cruise passenger terminal came to a head again at a public meeting in Balmain on Monday night.

About 80 angry residents met with Leichardt councilors and Balmain Precinct members at Balmain Town Hall to discuss the pros and cons of moving the current Overseas Passenger Terminal at Darling Harbour to the Balmain waterfront.

Leichardt Mayor Jamie Parker and City of Sydney councilor John McInerney were staunchly opposed to the move saying the White Bay area should be used for public access to the waterfront and the terminal should be situated at Barangaroo.

“We like it here, (but) I’m not sure overseas tourists would – shuttling passengers across the Anzac Bridge and through the city would require hours on a bus, only to end up across the water from where they disembarked – it’s a disaster,” McInerney said.
