Vessel sustains damage but Holland America insists the hull wasn’t breached.

Holland America Line vessel Westerdam sustained mild damage to its hull, 15 metres below the waterline, after colliding with ice in Alaska on Tuesday. The 285-metre vessel was reportedly maneuvering through ice while cruising in Yakutat Bay, near the landmark Hubbard Glacier.

According to Holland America Line, all future cruises will sail as scheduled and there were no injuries, or pollutants leaked, during the incident, travel website USA Today reports.

A US Coast Guard press release confirms the agency is investigating the incident and has met with the vessel in nearby Sitka.
