When Voyager of the Seas arrives in Australia for her summer stay next month, she’ll be a little different from the Voyager that sailed around our shores last season.

The Oasis-class vessel will go into drydock from 17 October for a month-long multi-million dollar makeover, which will see a number of restaurants and social areas replaced with new features.

Surf’s Up! Among the biggest changes will be the addition of the FlowRider surf simulator. Already popular on the line’s other Oasis-class and Freedom-class vessels, the twin surf simulators will replace the current rollerblading inline track on deck 13.

Outdoor cinema

A 220-square foot 3D movie screen will be fitted by the outdoor pool for late night movies and interior rooms will receive virtual balconies that provide real-time sights of the seas on an 80-inch, high definition screen framed to look like a real balcony.

The two-deck Vault nightclub will be replaced with new interior staterooms plus Italian specialty dining venue, Giovanni’s Table.

With a new Italian restaurant onboard, the line has decided to remove the other Italian venue, Portofino’s. Instead the 88-guest restaurant on deck 11 will become steakhouse Chop’s Grille.

The American-style venue serves dinner only and the menu includes ‘Grilled Alaskan Halibut’, ‘New York Strip Steak’ and ‘Veal Chop’.

For the first time, Voyager will serve Japanese cuisine in the Izumi restaurant. Replacing the Cloud Nine & Seven Hearts bar, the venue serves everything from sushi to sashimi and tableside cooking preparation using Hot Rocks.

The young ones will have more room to play when the Adventure Beach is removed and a new outdoor youth area is installed.

And golfers will have to find a new sport to play onboard, as the 19th Hole is replaced with the Diamond Club for the line’s Diamond members.

Other changes include more retail space instead of the Scoreboard Sports Bar and new Art Gallery where the Aquarium Bar once was.

Voyager of the Seas will arrive in Darwin on 30 November 2014 during a repositioning cruise from Singapore. She then sails to Sydney where she will officially start her 2014/15-Australian summer season.
