Viking Cruises – the ocean subsidiary of Viking River Cruises – has commenced construction on its second vessel, which is scheduled for delivery in 2016.
The first steel was cut at Italian shipyard, Fincantieri.
Named Viking Sea, she will be the second of four vessels to sail under the line’s ocean umbrella.
The first, Viking Star, will launch in April next year on Scandinavian, the Baltic and the Mediterranean itineraries.
According to the line, so far Viking Star’s first season is sold out, as is a quarter of the 2016 inventory.
Carrying only 930-passengers, each ship will have five accommodation categories; an infinity pool; an indoor pool; an outdoor public space called the Aquavit Terrace; and an Explorer’s Lounge.
A third ship, Viking Sky, will also be delivered late 2016.
Vote in this year’s special Readers’ Choice Awards
No doubt 2020 will go down in cruise history as the year of the pandemic – a once in a generation event. And this year’s Cruise Passenger Readers’ Choice Awards will reflect it.
