Uniworld guests asked for new destinations and the cruise line has provided, with a new luxury river itinerary in India.
Debuting in the country in January 2016, the line will offer a 12-night itinerary from New Delhi to Kolkata.
The ‘India’s Golden Triangle & the Sacred Ganges’ cruise includes a seven-night river cruise plus a five-night land tour.
Uniworld general manager of Australia John Molinaro told Cruise Passenger the line receives requests from passengers to cruise to a number of destinations, one of which was India.
“We aim to please our guests and give them what they want and India is something they want,” he said.
The river cruise portion will be aboard Ganges Voyager II, a vessel chartered from luxury line, Haimark Travel.
Mr Molinaro said although the line isn’t building or designing the ship, it will have Uniworld touches, including staff trained by the cruise line.
“It will have a Uniworld feel and guests will feel right at home,” he said.
Ganges Voyager II carries only 56-passengers and features four different suites, including one 400-square-feet Maharaja Suite; two 360-square-feet Viceroy Suites; two 280-square-feet Heritage Suites; and 20 261-square-feet standard suites.
Suites have French balconies, sitting chairs, flat screen televisions and large bathrooms with rain showers and Molton Brown bath products.
Public spaces onboard include the Governor’s Lounge, the observation deck featuring 360-degree views, a spa and fitness centre and an East India Restaurant with Indian-inspired and Western dishes.
The new itinerary will include visits to India’s capital and third largest city, Delhi; the Taj Mahal; the bazaars fortresses; and the palaces of Rajasthan’s Pink City of Jaipur.
There’s also a stop at Mother Teresa’s tomb; the Vedic temple in Mayapur; and fully hosted excursions to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Uniworld president Guy Young said the itinerary is ideal for travellers looking for new experiences.
“India is an amazing unforgettable place. It’s a journey our guests will rave about the rest of their lives,” he said.
Further details of the itinerary will be out later this year.
