The rise and rise of river cruising

Figures just released by the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) European river cruise market has increased by seven per cent in 2011. Russian waterways saw an 11 per cent increase while the number of holidaymakers taking river journeys in Asia and China rose by six per cent.

River cruising is in my opinion the very best way to see Europe. I have only been on one river cruise but enjoyed the experience so much I am off soon to take another two. Good hotels in Europe are very expensive and the top river ship staterooms are similar to rooms in a 5-star hotel. I am getting out my winter woollies as it’s 5 to 19 degrees C where I am headed, and looking forward to reporting the experience on these pages!
