Teenagers learn to DJ with Carnival

Teenagers cruising aboard select Carnival ships will soon be able to learn the art of DJ-ing at the new shipboard DJ academy.

Popular American disc jockey and Carnival’s official DJ – DJ Irie, created spin U for teens aged 15-17.

Working with onboard DJs, aspiring spin-masters will learn everything they need to know about the art form, from how to keep the party going and how to create their own DJ persona.

There are three different packages available, including a free 30-minute introductory session; a 45-minute comprehensive overview of mixing and scratching; and three one-hour sessions that cover mixing, microphone skills and song structure.

There are also one-on-one sessions available.

Spin U is being tested on six- and eight-day cruises aboard Carnival Freedom and will be rolled out fleetwide by the end of 2015.

DJ Irie said: “I am thrilled that Carnival and I were able to cultivate a youth program that involves something I am so passionate about and really translates into a fun guest experience.”

“It is exciting to be a part of a program that supports the arts and provides an outlet for young music lovers to express themselves during a family vacation.”
