Viking River Cruises has officially launched its ocean cruising subsidiary in Australia.
The launch of Viking Ocean Cruises was held in Sydney last night amongst past guests.
The line’s first big ship, Viking Star, will make her maiden voyage in May next year. She will be the first of four vessels launch over 2015 and 2016.
Viking managing director Australia and New Zealand Teresia Fors said the ocean brand was created using previous passenger’s suggestions.
She said guests want to see new destinations, that aren’t accessible by river.
“With our river cruises we’ve always focused on where you go not just how you get there and our ocean vessels won’t be different.
The ship’s itineraries have also been created to give passengers more time in port, with no departures before midnight.
