Seven cruise ships – AIDAluna, AIDAAmar, Columbus 2, Deutschland, Astor, MSC Lirica and the Queen Mary 2 – are scheduled to call into Hamburg between August 17 and August 19, 2012.
The city has decided to celebrate this unusual event by putting on a three-day festival.
The Hamburg Cruise Days event, organisers advise, will be “three days packed with maritime atmosphere, delicious food and drink, and great entertainment”.
Artist Michael Batz will deck the port out in blue for the weekend, party ships will navigate the Elbe and five giant cruise ships will parade on the Saturday, accompanied by smaller vessels.
But that’s not all. According to event organisers, “The dockside will become a cruise experience, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed stroll through different themed islands: maritime markets, shopping, fashion and designer goods, sports and leisure, fun for the youngest visitors, music and entertainment as well as culinary highlights prepared by some of the city’s best restaurants”.
