Crystal Cruises reveals Serenity is scheduled for a major redesign in May.

Not such a serene sum, is it? Crystal Cruises will send its biggest ship, the 68,870-ton Crystal Serenity, into drydock for two weeks this May to ensure its future passengers are cruising with the most current in luxury amenities.

From May 8 to 22 at Hamburg’s Blohm + Voss shipyard, “More than 400 expert technicians flown from around the world, working round the clock,” will give Crystal Serenity a complete overhaul – redesigning 531 of her best accommodations, shopping centres, the outdoor pool deck and other spaces – at a cost of $25 million.

Speaking of the 1,100-passenger ship’s intended refurbishment, interior designer Keith Rushbrook said, “We wanted modern classic elegance.  We wanted Fifth Avenue – crème de la crème New York-inspired living and retail spaces that people love and look forward to spending time in.”

We want to hear from you – do recent refurbishments influence your decision when booking a cruise?
