Scenic wins Sound of Music

The hills are definitely alive with the sound of music after Scenic early today announced it had struck an exclusive deal to produce a show in Salzburg featuring the Sound of Music.
Along with a major rebranding exercise and the launch this week of two new ships, it is the latest salvo from the Australian cruise line in an expansion program that includes new vessels in Asia and new destinations like Portugal.
A special group of guests who attended the launch of the Scenic Jasper this week were told the news at a concert at the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna.
Local singer Lisa Treichl will take on the Julie Andrews role with a cast of children on the original set of the famous movie in Salzburg – a Scenic exclusive to be in its 2016 brochure.
Ms Treichl reprised the role with the Imperial Orchestra during a Palais Liechtenstein Scenic Enrich event.
European river cruise lines are constantly seeking out new concepts to entertaining their growing guest numbers, and Scenic’s move is considered something of a coup.
First revealed in Cruise Passenger’s story early this week, it took a year to negotiate the deal for rights to the songs from the classic movie.
