Celebrity Century sailed into Sydney on November 30, her first visit to an Australian port. The 1,800-passenger ship has a 4-star rating for her service, dining and accommodation in The Berlitz Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships 2012.
The arrival of the ship marks the return of modern luxury cruise line Celebrity Cruises to Australia after a three-year hiatus.
In a small ceremony in Michael’s Club on board Celebrity Century, Jason McGregor of Sydney Ports Corporation presented the ship’s captain, Isidores Karamaounas, with a plaque to commemorate her maiden arrival.
“If the experiences of guests and crew are anything to go by, Celebrity Century is set for a fantastic season Down Under,” said Adam Armstrong, commercial manager, Celebrity Cruises Australia. “The crew enjoyed having their friendly and easy-going Australian guests on board the 18-night Hawaii to Sydney sailing and the feeling appeared to be mutual.
“Celebrity Cruises is committed to growing the Australian cruise market,” continued Armstrong. “Next year, we will bring Celebrity Solstice to Australia. Celebrity Solstice will not only be the newest ship to be based in the region, she will redefine the meaning of modern luxury with experiences never seen before in Australian waters.”
