Set sail with Rugby’s elite on an exclusive French river cruise culminating in the ultimate Rugby experience at Twickenham for the first Wallabies Test of the Spring Tour.
Queensland Rugby Union is celebrating its 130th Anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion they have created the “sporting trip of a lifetime” as part of their year-long festivities. The 18-day French river cruise begins on the October 19 and finishes on November 5, 2013.
The cruise is with Avalon Waterways on MS Avalon Scenery, and guests spend two nights in Monte Carlo before boarding the river ship on route to Paris. Queensland and Wallabies statesmen Rod McCall, Tony Shaw, Andrew Slack and Tim Horan, as well as Foxsports personality Nick McArdle, will host the luxury river cruise for up to 130 guests, who will join them to travel through the south of France before ending their trip in London to watch the Wallabies in action against their 2015 Rugby World Cup rivals England at Twickenham!
October 20-21 – Côte d’azur, France
Experience the ultimate in luxury and extravagance with two nights at the famous Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo on the French Riviera.
October 22 – Côte d’azur to Arles (embarkation)
Enjoy a leisurely morning before transferring by motorcoach to Arles in the Provence Region where you’ll board the river ship.
October 23 – Arles to Camargue
Spend the day experiencing the region’s stunning landscape, famous for inspiring many of the works of Vincent Van Gogh. In the early evening, depart Arles and sail towards Port St. Louis.
October 24 – Camargue to Avignon
In the early morning hours, the Avalon Scenery sails to Avignon arriving at breakfast time.
October 25 – Cruising to Viviers
Enjoy a leisurely morning on board to relax and enjoy the passing scenery before stopping for the afternoon in Viviers.
October 26 – Tournon/Tain l’hermitage to Vienne
Spend the morning in Tournon and Tain L’Hermitage, twin cities nestled among spectacular vineyards.
October 27 – Lyon
Enjoy exploring Lyon, the ‘Capital of Lights’, France’s largest metropolis outside Paris renowned for its historical and architectural landmarks dating back to the renaissance era.
October 28 – Macon, Tournus & Chalon-sur-Saone
Wake up in Macon on the Saône River, a city that plays an important role in the wine trade. Arrive in Chalon-sur- Saone before dinner.
October 29 – Chalon-sur-Saone, Beaune & Paris
After breakfast, disembark the ship and head for Beaune, the heart of Burgundy producing some of the region’s finest vintages.
October 30-31 – Paris
Staying in the exquisite Pullman Paris Hotel on the Left Bank, two free days will allow you to immerse yourself in Parisian culture.
