Its a royal welcome for Queen Elizabeth today at Port Adelaide.

Cunard’s popular luxury cruise ship makes her maiden call at Adelaide’s Outer Harbour 2 on 16 February 2016. On her first South Australian visit, Queen Elizabeth’s port stop is estimated to bring $500,000 to Adelaide through port charges and cruise spends through guests.

In Adelaide for a day as part of its 121-day World Voyage, guests aboard the 90,900 tonne Queen Elizabeth will have an opportunity to explore the city, take tours to Barossa, Adelaide & Cleland Wildlife Park, heritage site of Hahndorf, South Australian Museum. The ship leaves for Melbourne on 16 February, 2016 at 11:30 pm.

Queen Elizabeth’s sister ship Queen Victoria will also make her maiden visit to South Australia calling at Kangaroo Island next month on 4 March, 2016.

Meanwhile, the South Australian government is upbeat about the growth of cruise tourism in the state during 2015-2016 cruise season. Tourism Minister Leon Bigness told the Advertiser, “We have already welcomed 19 cruise ship visits – 11 in Adelaide, two in Port Lincoln and six on Kangaroo Island – and there are 17 more scheduled visits to go before the end of the season in May.”

“Last season we had 32 cruise ship visits and this generated more than $16.1 million for our visitor economy.”

“Our target is 43 cruise ship visits to SA by 2020, generating an estimated $17 million for our economy.”
