Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth is getting her diva on to celebrate this year’s Mardi Gras in Sydney.
The ship is scheduled to arrive in the city on Saturday 1 March – the day major celebrations commence for the gay and lesbian festival.
She’s hoping to create quite a spectacle as the ‘Queen of the Harbour’, with a 2.2 metre high giant stiletto to be poised on the liner’s top decks.
Popular Mardi Gras performer, Vanity Faire, will perform on top of the stiletto and a 126-metre long cape will billow behind Queen Elizabeth as she arrives in the city.
The cape will be unfurled at 7.00am and Vanity Faire will take her position on the stiletto before the liner approaches the Opera House around 7.30am.
She is the first of the Cunard Queens to arrive in Australia this month. Queen Victoria will be the second to visit Sydney on 5 March followed by Queen Mary 2 on 14 March.
