World cruise 2013 set to include a circumnavigation around New Zealand.
First, the announcement that one of the world’s most famous ships was to be cruising around Australia in 2012, and now the revelation that she’ll be circumnavigating New Zealand in 2013 for the first time ever. What a treat for local cruise passengers!
Cunard Line made the surprise announcement late yesterday that Queen Mary 2 will sail a 12-night Royal Circumnavigation of New Zealand, departing from Sydney, during her 104-night world cruise in 2012.
QM2 will visit Auckland, Wellington, the Bay of Islands, Milford Sound and Christchurch, and passengers will be able to take the voyage as a 12-night roundtrip from Sydney or a 19-night segment beginning in Sydney and ending in Fremantle.
Company managing director Peter Shanks made it clear that it was the strong bookings of the Australian circumnavigation in February 2012 that prompted the line to consider NZ for the world voyage.
“It’s clear to us from the response we’ve received for our Australian circumnavigation that Australians and New Zealanders are very keen to cruise on the legendary Queen Mary 2 in their own waters,” he said.
While in Australian waters, the ship will also call at Cairns, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle.
So set your dates and be prepared – these segments of the world cruise are going to sell out exceptionally fast! Pre-registrations begin at 5pm, Monday July 4, and sales open at 10pm on Thursday July 14.
