Princess Cruises will introduce new regional menus aboard its ships designed to reflect the destinations cruisers are visiting.
Regal Princess will be the first to offer the new program in November, when she commences her maiden Caribbean itinerary from Fort Lauderdale.
Items on the menu will be created using local produce, spices and seafood.
Dishes in the Caribbean will include the Arawak’s Caribbean-Style Pork Chop prepared with traditional Jamaican jerk spice and curry and served with red beans, rice and rum sauce.
There’s the Island-Spiced Jerk Chicken, which infuses chicken with a marinade of rum, molasses, tangy lime juice and thyme.
The menu will also include localised drinks such as the Red Snapper Mojito featuring fresh mint, mango and avocado mixed with a splash of rum; and a Caribbean Cooler cocktail – a coconut rum based drink mixed with melon liqueur, banana liqueur, citrus mix and pineapple juice.
Princess Cruises president Jan Swartz said: “One of the joys of travel is experiencing the culinary specialties for which a destination is known.”
“So now when our guests cruise with Princess around the world, they’ll be able to enjoy some of the most celebrated local dishes onboard as well as ashore.”
Regal Princess will commence her Caribbean cruise season from 6 November with a short preview sailing. This will be followed by a seven-day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean via St Thomas, St Maarten and Princess Cays.
Princess Cruises says it will roll out destination-based menus across the fleet, although a date is yet to be confirmed.
