Shrek’s wife was the surprise godmother onboard Allure of the Seas.
Guests onboard Allure of the Seas for her naming ceremony yesterday, November 28, were kept in the dark about the identity of the new ship’s godmother until the very last minute.
Royal Caribbean International chairman and CEO Richard Fain told the crowd at the hour-long ceremony that the chosen godmother was “big” before asking them to don 3-D glasses to watch Princess Fiona, from the Shrek movies, on the Amber Theatre movie screen.
Held at Port Everglades in Florida, the ceremony began with a performance from ‘Blue Planet’, created for Allure of the Seas, and a procession from a Miami pipe band, which was all part of a one-night fundraising effort for numerous charities and the stricken nation of Haiti.
Allure of the Seas’ captain, Hernan Zini, also thanked all the people involved in the ship’s smooth production and future service, including the builders at STX who had so much passion for the ship that they made her 5 centimetres longer than her sister.
