Almost 2,000 cruisers were left disappointed in Fremantle this week, when Princess Cruises cancelled a cruise over technical problems.
Sea Princess had reportedly been experiencing technical issues on its recent itineraries, that prevented it from cruising at full speed.
She was scheduled for quick repairs when she arrived in Fremantle on Saturday from Singapore. However, while in port engineers found a second, separate issue.
Princess decided to cancel the 14-night voyage to Brisbane, and will send the ship to Sydney for full repairs to avoid future cancellations.
The line hasn’t revealed whether repairs will be completed before Sea Princess’ 14-day New Zealand roundtrip departing from Brisbane on 29 September.
Affected passengers will receive a full refund on their cruise fare plus a future cruise credit. Passengers will also be allowed to stay onboard until forward travel arrangements are made.
A Princess spokesperson said a care team is also working with guests to organise air flights where necessary.
“We are profoundly sorry for the disappointment of our guests who have already been so understanding and patient in relation to earlier necessary changes to their original itinerary,” the spokesperson said.
The cancellation comes a year after the line was forced to cancel Sun Princess’ 14-day Singapore to Fremantle sailing.
The cruise was cancelled hours before the ship was scheduled to depart Marina Bay Cruise Centre.
