In a bid to revitalise its waterfront, the Port of Los Angeles has entered into an agreement with the creators of the highly successful Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica to transform two 1940s-era warehouses on the San Pedro Waterfront into a bustling crafts centre, Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles.
“Crafted will showcase high-quality handmade items from local Southern California artisans against the magnificent backdrop of the working waterfront,” said Wayne Blank, president of Bergamot Station Ltd and majority partner of Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles. “The Harbor Area is a hidden jewel and we think Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles will attract both residents and visitors to experience the artistry and beauty of the waterfront.”
The 13,000-square-metre indoor venue, which features a large outdoor courtyard, will contain 500 stalls, hosting artists, gourmet food outlets and entertainment.
The market will open mid next year and development is expected to continue until 2014.
