P&O Cruises’ Britannia will be more than just a cruise vessel, according to the cruise line.

In a teaser clip unveiling features of the new ship, the group revealed it has recruited the designers behind some of the world’s leading hotels to oversee the ship’s interior and build “the world’s finest hotel at sea”.

Richmond International’s project list includes, Mandarin Oriental properties, InterContinental and Langham as well as some Four Seasons hotels.

The group was also responsible for designing the Lotus Spa in Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess.

P&O Cruises marketing director Christopher Edgington said the line was taking a “completely new approach”.

“We’re talking about the biggest and best cruise ship being built specifically for the UK market,” he explained.

Further details of the ship’s interior will be released later this month. However, Richmond International director Terry McGillicuddy said the aim is to design the ship with a classical and contemporary appeal.

“From a design perspective, modern and classic means it’s something contemporary so we’re using quality materials, it’s quite modern and timeless,” he said.
