It’s always a good move to have an anniversary or birthday on board a ship and Mary’s birthday was celebrated in grand style. Aatish, our room steward, put balloons and a card on the cabin door in the morning and the fabulous Maitre’D Krzysztof booked the Wine Room in the Waterfront restaurant for dinner for the two of us and six women officers. We met at Mix Bar on Deck 7 for a pre-dinner cocktail and Steve the mixologist whipped up his special cucumber martinis which are deliciously refreshing – I now have the recipe but cannot possibly share it, sorry!

We met Captain Lorenzo Paoletti and had a quick chat on our way to the Wine Room – which by the way can be booked at no extra charge for up to 14 guests, or you can book in for the seven-course degustation ‘Chef’s Table’ dinner for $75 a head. cruise sales manager Samantha Maidment, administration and revenue director Zoe Gaunt, front office manager Louisa-Jane Brown, people and performance manager Lynsay Connel and shore tours manager Daisy Stephens). Every waiter in the restaurant filed into the Wine Room to give Mary a birthday kiss and she was presented with a magnificent cake – she won’t be forgetting this birthday in a hurry!
