P&O Cruises’ flagship Pacific Explorer has baked an Australia Day cake just like they do on every Australia Day cruises…a tradition they decided to keep, despite the cruise pause.
The cake is pictured here along with members of the Pacific Explorer crew who made it possible.
“It was a heartwarming gesture for the crew to bake an Australia Day cake and a reminder that Pacific Explorer is very much part of Australia’s home grown cruise line,” said P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell.
The baking of the Australia Day cake was also a reminder of the fresh produce that P&O Cruises buys from local suppliers during normal cruise operations.
During a normal three-day cruise such as an Australia Day cruise, P&O purchases 2.5 tonnes of Australian red meat, enough to serve 2600 mini meat pies and 1200 sausage rolls.
In a typical cruise year, P&O uses between 1000 to 1500 tonnes of red meat and looks forward to sailing and again being able to support local producers on Australia Day and throughout the year.
