Celebrity Reflection: fine dining

So much to do, so little time.  Dinner was in Murano, one of  the Celebrity Cruises specialty restaurants that you’ll find on all the Solstice class ships. Others on board Reflection are Tuscan Grille, Blu, Qsine, Silver Harvest, Lawn Club Grill (and new to Reflection) The Porch and Bistro on Five. Distinguished guests at our table included Michael Bayley, the CEO & President of Celebrity Cruises; Jamie Sweeting, Vice President of Environmental Stewardship for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (the go-to man for enquiries about the lawn, and everything else enviro-related); Japanese journalist Sumiko Ueda, who has done 300 cruises; well-known UK travel writer Annabelle Thorpe, who is on her second-ever cruise; Irish writer and novelist Muriel Bolger; and Celebrity Cruises’ charming PR lady, Liz Jakeway.

One of the hallmarks of dining in Murano is the tableside service, so it is well worth choosing a dish such as flambéed lobster to see it being prepared in front of you. My perfect Dover sole was presented to me then whisked away to be filleted and served.

Delivery of the cheese course is nothing short of immaculate. John Suley, the line’s Director of Culinary Operations, made an appearance towards the end of the evening to a round of enthusiastic applause. Some of us repaired to Cellar Masters for a nightcap; this bar carries a vast range of wines that you can buy by the ‘taste’, or in a small or large glass, with helpful advice from the sommelier – a smooth cab merlot finished off the evening very nicely, thank you.
