Norwegian Cruise Line has started building its first Breakaway Plus-class vessel, Norwegian Escape.

The first keel was laid at German shipyard, Meyer Werft last week. The keel will be used on the first of 86 blocks that will make up the 164,600 gross ton vessel.

While laying the ‘lucky coin’ on the first block, Norwegian chief executive Kevin Sheehan said Norwegian Escape will be the line’s largest ship, carrying 4,200 passengers – 100 passengers more than the line’s current largest ship, Norwegian Epic.

Mr Sheehan said it will also be the line’s most innovative vessel, with new spaces and interactive experiences.

Further details of what guests can expect to see onboard will be released closer to the ship’s launch in October next year.

Additionally, the ship’s hull artwork is designed by a marine wildlife artist and will feature an underwater scene of marine wildlife.

When she launches, she will sail on seven-day cruises from Miami to the Eastern Caribbean.
