Norwegian Cruise Line is trialing an all-inclusive package on its ocean cruises for the first time, signaling a possible shift to the kind of pricing that is so popular on river ships.
It’s the first of its kind in ocean cruising and combines the cost of on board drinks, Internet, dining, service charges and shore excursions into one comprehensive package.
The offer is available on 2015 cruises for purchase from 4 August to 29 August 2014.
Norwegian Cruise Line chief executive Kevin Sheehan said the package was created after receiving strong demand for the line’s fly, cruise and stay vacations.
“We are making it easy for those that want everything included in their cruise vacation with the option of our all-inclusive package,” he said.
The all-inclusive trend is already widely popular amongst river cruise lines and is used by companies like Scenic Tours and Uniworld as a marketing edge against its competitors.
And cruisers love it because they can put away their mental calculator and enjoy their holiday without worrying about on board spend.
But despite its popularity amongst cruisers, ocean cruise lines rely on those extra on board charges to cover the cost of cheap fares and last minute offers.
For a seven-day cruise, the package is priced from $899 or $128 a day, and includes:
– 10 percent off the cruise fare
– Complimentary access to one of the line’s specialty restaurants every night of the cruise
– Unlimited beverages on the ship and its private island, Great Stirrup Cay
– Shore excursions credit of $200 per person
– Pre-paid daily service charges
– A 250 minute Internet package per person
– 20 photos of any size
– Chocolate-covered strawberries
– A bottle of wine
– One bingo session
– Six bottles of water
For cruises from three- to- five days the shore excursion credit is only $100 per person; and for sailings nine- to- 14 days, the package includes 12 bottles of water.
