Having mastered the riving cruising sector, Viking Cruises has announced it is moving into the ocean market.
Earlier this month, the cruise line announced it had laid the keel for its first ocean cruise vessel, Viking Star, which is to be delivered in early 2015.
The ship will carry 930-passengers and is expected to feature state-of-the-art design from experienced nautical architects and engineers.
According to Viking Cruises chairman Torstein Hagen, the line’s ocean itineraries are already selling at a fast rate.
“There is undoubtedly interest in an ocean cruise experience that returns the focus to the destination, and Viking is actively planning to meet that demand,” he explained.
The line’s ocean itinerary will include voyages in Scandinavia and the Baltic as well as the Western and Eastern Mediterranean.
In addition to Viking’s first ocean product, it is also in the midst of building 14 new river vessels, which are expected to enter service in March 2014.
