Viking Ocean Cruises launches first ship
NewsViking Cruises announced that it has delivered its first ocean ship, the Viking Star.
The move signals the line’s official arrival into the ocean cruise industry and the delivery ceremony took place on March 28, when the ship was presented at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard outside of Venice, Italy.
On April 11, the Viking Star will set sail from Istanbul though the Mediterranean and into the Atlantic on her way to be officially christened on May 17 in Bergen, Norway.
She will accommodate up to 930 guests in 465 cabins. The décor of the Viking Star is in align with the light-filled modern Scandinavian design ethos.
The Viking Star is one of three ocean cruise ships on order; the remaining two ships, Viking Sea and Viking Sky are currently under construction.
