Underwater cameras, sonar recording and new kayak facilities star in Innersea’s dual refurbs.

Alaskan expedition cruise operator Innersea Discoveries is outfitting its two ships, Wilderness Discoverer and Wilderness Adventurer with high-tech gadgets and amenities to ready the vessels for their inaugural south-east Alaska cruise season.

An underwater camera is being installed on the bow of each ship to stream a live view of marine life to in-cabin and lounge room televisions while a sonar recording device replays the sounds of whales communicating with each other; and kayak launchers are being added to make launching and returning kayaks to the vessels easier.

Innersea Discoveries’ Tim Jacox, executive vice president of sales and marketing, also said the company has also “put a lot of thought into the new features to make the experience on board even more enriching and comfortable.”

Some new in-cabin amenities include iPod docking stations, which will complement the deck-side hot tub, sauna, gym and library passengers can already find on board.

Wilderness Discoverer and Wilderness Adventurer sail week-long, combinable cruises between Juneau and Ketchikan from May to September.
