The First Wave

Sydney Harbour is showing signs of the season to come with the arrival over the past few days of Royal Caribbean International’s 2,100-passenger Radiance of the Seas and Princess Cruises’ 1,990-passenger Sea Princess.

The arrival of Radiance of the Seas on Saturday October 15 marked the dawn of a new era of cruising in Australia. At 293 metres in length and weighing in at 90,000 tons, Radiance, built in 2001 and recently refurbed to the tune of several million dollars, will be the largest ship to be home-ported in Sydney for the 2011/2012 season.

Only two days later, in the early hours of Monday October 17, the 77,000-ton Sea Princess was welcomed into the harbour for the first time with a traditional water canon display. She is one of a record six Princess Cruises’ ships that will be based in Australia over the coming summer months.
