Tauck launches new river ship and adds new cruises in 2015

Tauck has launched its second brand new vessel this year, with MS Savor setting off from Germany late last week.

The ship is the line’s second Inspiration Class vessel and sister ship to MS Inspire, which launched in April.

Both ships are 23 percent longer than Tauck’s four other ships, measuring at 361 feet.

Despite the extra length, the two newbuilds carry only 130 passengers, ten percent more than the rest of the fleet, but still 60 passengers less than other major lines sailing in Europe.

Chief executive Dan Mahar said the decision to keep passenger numbers light was to maintain the line’s intimate passenger-to-ship-length ratio.

“You simply can’t deliver the same relaxed, intimate atmosphere when you put nearly 50% more passengers into the same space,” he said.

The ships have a total of 67 cabins onboard, including eight loft cabins that extend from the first to the second decks, providing guests with two views.

Rooms also include new bedding and custom ordered amenities as well as 400-thread-count satin bed linens.

There’s also a hair salon, fitness center, an open seating dining room, an alternative dining venue, American breakfast room and Al fresco dining on the Sun Deck.

Savor will be used on itineraries on European cruises along the Danube.

Meanwhile, Tauck has announced it will add two new river cruises for 2015, including a 23-day three-country itinerary and a new Tauck Bridges family cruise.

The 23-day ‘Belle Epoch: London to Monte-Carlo’ cruise begins with a land tour in London before boarding Swiss Sapphire for a nine-night cruise along the Seine. Guests will visit Normandy, Giverny and Calvados before ending in Paris. From Paris guests will travel by high-speed train to Lyon where they will board Swiss Emerald for another nine-night cruise along the Rhone to Burgundy, Avignon, Viviers and Arles. The trip will end with travel to Monte Carlo for a two-night stay at the Fairmont Monte Carlo.

Meanwhile, the eight-day ‘Castles on the Rhine: Family Riverboat Adventure’ is designed for families and takes guests from Basel to Amsterdam aboard Inspire.

The ship cruises along the Rhine for visits to sites in France, Germany and the Netherlands, including Heidelberg Castle and one-thousand-year-old Reichenstein Castle.
