Royal Caribbean’s Stormy Weather
NewsRoyal Caribbean International’s Freedom of the Seas has sustained damage to public areas and staterooms after experiencing rough seas on Sunday evening. The ship hit some heavy weather at about 7.30pm, shortly after departing Port Canaveral.
“Freedom of the Seas experienced wind speeds more than three times what was forecasted,” the company said in a statement. “The combination of the wind and sea conditions caused severe ship movement.”
Some passengers were injured, but according to the statement, none of these injuries were serious. And while some of the ship is damaged, the cruise line advised that this has in no way affected the seaworthiness of the ship.
The ship continued on its scheduled seven-night itinerary, with stops in Coco Cay, Bahamas; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; and Phillipburg, St. Maarten.
