Star Cruises has announced it will be the owner of a new mega cruise ship.

The line’s parent company, Genting Hong Kong placed a US$960 million order for the ship with a German Shipping yard earlier this month.

Star Cruises has now confirmed the mega ship will join its fleet from late 2016.

According to Star Cruises, the 18-deck luxury cruise ship will hold 4,500 passengers and 2,000 crew.  She will feature 33 food and beverage outlets specializing in international Asian cuisine; a theatre; 19 recreation, health and fitness centers; MICE facilities such as aqua parks, waterparks and meeting rooms.

Additionally, the cruise line said the mega ship will feature tailored products to meet client demands.

A Star Cruises update said: “Star Cruises best understands the ever changing taste and trend of Asian customers.

“The introduction of the new vessel will further expand the company’s footprint and add on to the existing wide array of itineraries, leisure and entertainment options.”

Extra cruise capacity in Asia couldn’t come sooner.  The region experienced a 13 percent decline in Australian cruisers caused by a decline in available capacity.
