Radiance of the Seas will have six singles cabins added ahead of her approaching Aussie season.

It’s a start: Radiance of the Seas, the big new Royal Caribbean ship bound for Australian shores in October, will have specialised accommodation for up to six solo travellers by the time her scheduled refurbishment ends on June 10.

While it doesn’t seem like a lot for a ship built to accommodate 2,500 passengers, it will be the first time an Australia-based vessel offers dedicated single cabins. It will also be a first for the cruise line and, if the move proves popular, the new-style living quarters will be rolled out to other vessels in the Royal Caribbean fleet.

Fares for the sure-to-be sought after cabins are yet to be announced although the line says they will be cheaper than the existing singles supplement.

Radiance of the Seas is currently in drydock in British Columbia (see photos) as part of Royal Caribbean’s ‘Royal Advantage’ fleet-wide upgrade program to celebrate its 40th birthday.

Over three weeks, she will receive seven new dining and entertainment venues, a poolside cinema screen, a child’s nursery, ship wide wi-fi and interactive televisions in all cabins.
