Silversea launches Silver Discoverer in 2014

Luxury cruise operator Silversea has launched its global marketing campaign which for the first time will take guests on a cruise to the Kimberley in WA next year.Silversea will take on competitors such as Orion Expeditions and North Star Cruises and the battle will be all about impeccable, white-gloved butler service.

“We will be the only ultra-luxury, premium operator,” Steve Odell, Silversea president for Asia Pacific and Europe said.

Mr Odell added that Sven Lindblad, owner of Lindblad Expeditions and Orion had previously mentioned that expeditions to remote areas such as the Kimberley do not need white-gloved, butler service.

“But with guests paying about $10,000 for an expedition to the Kimberley, they expect to have luxury service including white-gloved butlers,” Mr Odell said. “And we expect half of our guests will come from Australia.”

The first 11-day expedition to the Kimberley on the Silver Discoverer will take off from April next year.

Silversea has also poached Robin West, formerly of  Orion, who will now lead Silver Discoverer’s expedition to the Kimberley.

The 5000 tonne-ship which will be able to accommodate 128 guests, underwent an extensive refurbishment recently. New facilities will include a swimming pool, gym, beauty salon and a glass-bottom boat for exploration of underwater marine life.

The ship will also explore remote areas in Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, Russian Far East, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand next year.

Mr Odell explained the Russian Far East cruise is one of the planet’s least explored and most remarkable destination.

Silversea will also celebrate its 20th anniversary of the family-owned company next year.
