In a move which may prove unpopular with some cruisers, Royal Caribbean International is adjusting the cruise line’s recommended gratuities guidelines for cruises taken on or after July 1, 2011.

The new recommended daily gratuities for dining staff and housekeeping staff will amount to US $11.65 per guest per day, and US $13.90 per suite guest per day.

This gratuities price increase is said to be Royal Caribbean’s first in 13 years, but guests who prepay gratuities, or select the My Time Dining flexible dining program before December 11, for sailings on or after July 1, 2011, will not be charged extra.

Gratuities will continue to be given at the discretion of each guest, except for those who choose My Time Dining, which require prepaid gratuities.
