Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth came out today in support of Sydney’s famous gay and lesbian festival, The International Mardi Gras.

Despite a damp start to the day’s festivities, the liner sported a 126-metre multi-coloured banner saying ” Happy Mardi Gras”.

Sydneysiders were encouraged to turn out to see what was described by Cunard as a “Queen of the Harbour” arrival.

News helicopters hovered over the ship as she passed the Costa Deliziosa, which was forced from the Ocean Terminal onto a harbour mooring by the majestic arrival.

As the Queen approached the Sydney Harbour bridge, well known Mardi Gras performer Vanity Faire sang on the top deck perched in a two metre high stiletto.
