New York is preparing for the cruise party of the year – Quantum of the Seas will be making her debut at Cape Liberty, New Jersey tomorrow morning Sydney time with stars and fireworks.

She is the most anticipated new cruise ship of the year and New York will be putting on the style!

According to USA TODAY, railings were lined with cheering passengers and television helicopters buzzing overhead to get a glimpse of Royal Caribbean’s newest ship this week.

Actress Kristin Chenoweth will be doing the honours to christen the 4,180-passenger ship. As a “smart ship”, expect some surprises…though no-one is expecting the robot barmen to break the champagne over the bows.

The 16-deck ship passed under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge just before day break with 13 feet to spare and then sailed past the Statue of Liberty and downtown Manhattan before circling back to the Cape Liberty Cruise Port.

Quantum of the Seas is the third largest cruise ship ever built and she is also the most technology advanced ship.

Royal Caribbean says the ship has super fast internet, an all digital check in process as well as a skydiving simulator and the very first bumper cars at sea.

Quantum of the Seas isn’t just changing cruising, it’s changing how today’s traveller vacations,” said Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.  “It’s not just how you travel, it’s the experience from start to finish.

With Quantum we are empowering our guests to customize every aspect of their journey, providing them with an unprecedented level of freedom and flexibility.”
