Princess release their 2028 Alaska sailings – what Aussies should know

• Princess has released their 2028 Alaska sailings.
• This will feature more than 185 departures across eight ships, including their newest and biggest ships like Star Princess and Discovery Princess.
• There are many voyages where Aussies are only a convenient flight away from getting onboard.

Princess Cruises has lifted the lid on its 2028 Alaska season. The season will feature a massive 185 departures across 14 different itineraries and eight ships, including the Star Princess, the newest ship in the fleet. 

Like most cruise lines in Alaska, Princess offers a mix of cruises and ‘cruisetours’, where they combine a cruise with land travel in Alaska, including stays in exclusive lodge destinations. Princess has been sailing in Alaska for nearly 60 years, and the massive fleet of eight ships in the region shows Princess’s commitment to Alaska.

What to know about Princess’s 2028 Alaska season 

• The eight ships sailing are the Star Princess, Discovery Princess, Emerald Princess, Royal Princess, Coral Princess, Crown Princess, Island Princess and Ruby Princess. If you got to sail on Discovery Princess in Australia and enjoyed her, Alaska would be a great pick for a second sailing. Some itineraries will take you through as many as four national parks in just one trip.
• For Aussies who are travelling such a long way, it’s definitely recommended to take a cruisetour or add some form of the land travel to your cruise, as you get to see a very distinct side of Alaska than what you see at sea. 
• Sailings range from four to 16 days; longer itineraries will generally include land travel as well. When adding land travel, you can look forward to stays at Princess-owned lodges in the heart of Denali National Park, as well as other key destinations. Most itineraries will also involve a railway ride through Alaska.
• You can sail from Seattle, Vancouver, Anchorage, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Los Angeles is probably the cheapest to reach from Australia, but there are also direct flights to San Francisco and Vancouver from Sydney and Melbourne.
• For the most classic Alaskan experience, Princess’s ‘Voyage of the Glaciers’ is generally the top pick. These are one-way voyages between Anchorage and Vancouver which focus on soaking up as much Alaskan scenery as possible, including two special glacier viewing experiences. 
• There are also many roundtrip sailings on offer, which offer ever-so-slightly less immersion but do make the overall trip much more convenient. 
• Alaska sailings also feature Princess’s special ‘North to Alaska’ programs, which features special culinary experiences and demonstrations, onboard lectures, special glacier viewing experiences and more. These programs extend to Princess’s wilderness lodges, where you’ll learn even more about Alaska’s culture, history, cuisine and wildlife, with talks led by locals and conservationists.
• This program also extends to special shore excursions, which range across activities like whale watching in Juneau, taking the railway in Skagway, learning about lumberjacks in Ketchikan, landing on a glacier via helicopter and more.
• The season will go on sale on August 11.
